Are we too afraid of touch?

I’ve raised this issue a few times before:
Park attendants being told to question people in parks (especially men) if they have no children
or men in the US refusing to get near children in need due their being afraid of being branded a child molestor whilst in the UK everyone is banned from coming into contact with children without a government permit.

Now the Times asks whether maybe this hasn’t gone a bit far, with especially men refusing to volunteer to do anything having to do with children due to the suspicion and bureaucracy involved.

Static Stretching

It turns out that static stretching – holding a stretch for 20 + seconds – causes you to lose around 30% of your muscle power. It also doesn’t help limber you up and thereby help prevent injuries. Dynamic stretching – stretching your muscles whilst keeping them moving – is much much better: you don’t lose muscular power and can stretch them further afterwards, allthough the jury is out whether this helps prevent injuries.

Attractive people and their children

An earlier study in 2006 showed that attractive parents are 36% more likely to have daughters, and that the daughters become more attractive

That study has been validated again recently, but now with the added caveat that whilst it seems that the attractiveness is hereditiary for women and not for men: ie. attractive couples have more children of which the daughters will likely be attractive and the sons likely will not.

Parkour / Freerunning

Parkour is the original French name for the sport, Freerunning is the name it has taken on. These guys get from A to B using the most original way possible. That means jumping railings, from house to house, doing flips, running up walls, etc etc etc. It’s an art as much as a sport and involves high levels of fitness, power and gymnastic ability.

Most Awesome Pub in the World!

The Fitzroy Saint Hotel bar in Saint Kilda, Victoria, has caused uproar in the past for hiring a dwarf to pour drinks down patron’s throats, but it doesn’t end there! In a raunchy ad last week, women who took off their panties in the bar got free $50,- drinks cards and if they flashed their bra’s or panties they got free drinks!

For some reason more uproar and this event got cancelled 🙁 Of course it’s hardly surprising that the stopping power consisted of two uptight ugly 75 year old prim virgins. OK I don’t know about the last part, but the bitches come across that way in the article.

The art of seduction

After having read ‘the Game’ by Neal Strauss, I decided to look if the internet communities he describes on the pickup game really exists and back up his claims. These guys have taken a good look at what works when picking up women and tried to apply rules to their behaviors, drastically improving their chances of a successful pickup.

The mASF forums are a good source of information,

including their instructions on what to do to get into the community first.

Bedding quality

So if you want to sleep comfortably, one of the ways to get a better sleep is by looking at your sheets.

The factor we all know about is thread count – how many threads per square inch of fabric. Nowadays manufacturers are coming out with 1000 / 1600 thread count materials. This is not the whole of the story though. You need to also look at

– ply
– yarn size
– type of cotton
– how it’s woven

If it’s 2 ply, then it becomes heavier and is kind of cheating, as they up the thread count by first interweaving two threads and then weaving the fabric.

Large yarn is better.

Sea Island, Egyptian (Ashmouni) or Pima (US) cotton is best as the cotton strands (the “staple”) themselves are longest. Some people prefer sateen, which has polyester in it, making it slightly less ‘slippery’ or silky than pure cotton.

There are four main types of ELS (Extra Long Staple) cotton:- American upland , Egyptian, Sea Island and Asiatic.

(1) American upland is a plant with green coloured flowers. It gives a large yield with white fibres 7/8”-1-1/4 inches in length.
(2) The Egyptian cotton has lemon coloured flowers and produces long silky light tan fibres
1-1/2” in length. The American variant of this strain is Pima Cotton which yields fibre of 1-3/8” & above in length.
(3) Sea island cotton is grown in the West Indies . It has yellow flower and is a slow grower and the white fibres are 1-3/4” in length used for high quality textile.
(4) The Asiatic strain produces a low yield of short, coarse, harsh fibre.

Egyptian cotton seems to be grown in Karnak.

Howto Walk

We’re supposed to walk on our feet, but we wear shoes for protection and fashion. This has a drastic impact on the amount of injuries we get as a result of walking the wrong way. This souds a bit wierd, but there’s an excellent article in NY Magazine which had me reading it the whole way through.

So what can we do?

We can wear Vivo Barefoot shoes:

where the sole is so thin that it feels like you’re walking on bare feet but are protected.

This is the store

Or there’s the Vibram five fingers shoes:

which you can buy here

You can buy them from toesocks.nl

Of course if you want to wear socks with them you need toe socks!

or more high tech socks
